Top Earning Managers: Wenger earns more than Barcelona boss Enrique despite 12-year title drought

He’s notoriously frugal with Arsenal’s money in the transfer market, so it may come as a surprise that Arsene Wenger’s the fourth-highest paid manager in world football.

The 66-year-old’s entering the final year of his contract at the Emirates and it’s yet to be seen whether this will be his final season in north London.

Wenger celebrates 20 years with the Gunners this month but he does so on the back of a 12-year league title drought.

The Gunners have won three FA Cups during that period but there’s still large amounts of unrest in north London, with a section of the home support booing Wenger during Saturday’s charity match with AC Milan.

Despite his struggles, Wenger takes home a heft £8.9m-a-year, making him the fourth-best paid manager in the world. Only Pep Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti and Jose Mourinho earn more.

That means Barcelona boss, Luis Enrique, is behind Wenger in the pecking order – despite winning the Treble with the Catalans in 2015.

The top 10 highest paid managers in the world

  1. Pep Guardiola: £15.9m-a-year
  2. Carlo Ancelotti: £12.6m-a-year
  3. Jose Mourinho: £12.3m-a-year
  4. Arsene Wenger: £8.9m-a-year
  5. Luis Enrique: £7.2m-a-year
  6. Jurgen Klopp: £7m-a-year
  7. Antonio Conte: £6.6m-a-year

No wonder! Wenger doesn’t have to go the extra mile to earn fat pay.
