Governor Ortom offers scholarship to six indigent children

Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has announced the offer of scholarship to two sets of triplets up to university level.


The six children were brought to the Government House in Makurdi by their mother, Mrs. Kumawuese Azua Kwen, a widow from Kwande Local Government Area.

Mrs. Kwen who told the Governor that her husband died when she was pregnant with the second set of triplets lamented that life has been difficult for her and her children.

The Governor who was moved by the story declared that the state government would be responsible for the training of the six children up to university level.

He said the scholarship would be formalised so that when the present administration leaves office, the next government can continue with the sponsorship of the children up to tertiary level of education.

The Governor who directed his Chief of Staff, Terwase Orbunde to ensure the immediate implementation of the scholarship offer added that the State Government would also commence giving monthly stipends to the mother of the children to enable her take care of immediate needs of the family.
