Joel Pohjanpalo scores 15-minute hat trick as Bayer Leverkusen win

Substitute Joel Pohjanpalo scored his first Bundesliga hat trick as Bayer Leverkusen came from behind to win 3-1 against Hamburg.

Bobby Wood gave Hamburg the lead just before the hour mark, but the visitors could not hold on, and it was Pohjanpalo who undid their good work.

The Finn, introduced from the bench in the 72nd minute, levelled seven minutes later and then struck twice in stoppage time to earn Leverkusen their first win of the season.

Freiburg came from behind to pick up their first win of the season, 3-1, and dent the confidence of Borussia Monchengladbach ahead of their trip to Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Thorgan Hazard scored the opening goal in the 35th minute to put the Foals – who had won every single game they had played so far this season, including Champions League, DFB-Pokal and Bundesliga – in front.

But Maximilian Philipp turned the game on its head with a brace in the second half before Nils Petersen opened his account for the season with a late penalty as Freiburg extended their unbeaten record at home to Gladbach to nine games.

Darmstadt snatched a last-gasp 1-0 derby win over Eintracht Frankfurt in a game which was overshadowed by clashes involving fans in the stands at the Bollenfalltor.

Sandro Sirigu scored the only goal of the game in the last minute to give Darmstadt the local bragging rights for the remainder of 2016, with his attempted cross turning into a fortunate shot which beat Lukas Hradecky on its way into the far corner.

Wolfsburg and Cologne both maintained their unbeaten starts to the season with a goalless draw at the VW-Arena.

Mario Gomez made his debut for Wolfsburg, but the third most prolific forward currently still playing in the Bundesliga failed to make an impact on the game against a defensively solid Cologne.
