Nigerians remember HID Awolowo at first anniversary

Family members, friends and political associates, yesterday, gathered at Ikenne, Ogun State, country home of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, to mark the one-year anniversary of the demise of the Awolowo matriarch, Chief Mrs. Hannah Idowu Dideolu (H.I.D) .

The chairman of the Advisory Council of H.I.D Awolowo Foundation, Mrs. Daisy Danjuma, and President, Women Arise for Change Initiative, Dr. Joe Okie Odumakin, who spoke at the occasion, lamented the lack of valueas in Nigerian families, describing it as a major problem confronting the country.

The ceremony also marked the inauguration of the Foundation Advisory Council.

Odumakin, who was the guest speaker, said her organisation recorded about 3,500 cases of domestic violence in the country.

In her paper, The Nigerian woman in the footprints of (HID), she said: “Whether husband is beating wife or vice-versa, this is a generation of couples that need to go back to learn from the Awolowo family.”

She recalled how the late Obafemi Awolowo and his wife lived exemplary lives, as a result of which they received commendations from society.
