It was gathered that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), on Monday, sealed off 3 houses belonging to former governor of Katsina state, Ibrahim Shema.
The houses are in three different written boldly on its walls,” EFCC Under Investigation”
The first house is located at Makera estate along Daura road, while the second was inside Barhim estate and the last in the Government Reserved Area, all in Katsina.
The Present governor of the state, Governor Aminu Bello Masari, was said to have been displeased with the handover note he received from his predecessor and thereafter, set a panel to investigate the management of the state’s finances by Mr. Shema.
The ex-governor was declared wanted by the EFCC, for an alleged fraud amounting to 76 billion Naira.
Mr. Shema on his part, ignored all invitations since 2015 to answer questions over the allegations made by the current governor of the state.
The anti-graft agency stated that the former Katsina governor is wanted for criminal conspiracy, inflation of contracts, abuse of office, diversion of funds and embezzlement.
While the agency had said that all efforts to locate him as well as his aides, have proved abortive, Governor Masari said he would ensure that all stolen funds are returned to the government coffers.
Spokesman to the former governor, Mr. Oluwabusola Olawale, has however called on the EFCC to be fair in its investigation, maintaining that Shema acquired his property legitimately.
