Jose Mourinho has sarcastically hit out at his critics by claiming that he is the worst manager in the history of football.
The Portuguese has been heavily criticised following United’s run of three consecutive defeats, while his decision to publicly criticise Luke Shaw in the wake of last Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Watford reportedly angered some of the club’s senior players.
But ahead of Leicester City’s visit to Old Trafford on Saturday, Mourinho was asked how difficult it will be for the champions to defend their crown this season.
And the 53-year-old used the question as an opportunity to remind everyone that he’s only the
‘History says that not many teams in Premier League history did that [retain the title],’ said the United boss.
‘One was Man United, another one was some team managed by the worst manager in the history of football.
‘The reality is I look at that and they are very good and the won Premier League because some of the victims were not good enough, but they won because they are very good and they still are.

‘The only thing that upsets me a bit is the criticism of my players and I would love to protect them and from you (media) but I can’t.
‘That doesn’t upset me, it just gives me a feeling it’s hard and you want to protect people and you can’t.’
