A Kano Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday sentenced an 18-year-old man, Gaddafi Abdullahi, to six months imprisonment without an option of fine, for stealing N5,000.
Senior Magistrate Aminu Fagge also sentenced Abdullahi to three months imprisonment, but with an option of N10,000 fine for trespassing into a house.
Abdullahi, a resident of Kabuga Quarters, Kano, had pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of house trespass and theft.
The prosecutor, Inspector Yusuf Sale, had told the court that Abdullahi trespassed into the house of Hasiya Ismail of the same address and stole N5,000.
Sale said that Abullahi committed the offence on July 7 at 4.10am, adding that Ismail reported the case to the Rijiyar Zaki Police Division, Kano on the same day.
Sale said that Abdullahi trespassed into Ismail’s room while she was sleeping and stole away the sum in contravention of Sections 349 and 287 of the Penal Code.
