According to reports, the North has been unable to fill its quota system in federal appointments due to lack of educationally qualified personnel.
Acting Executive Chairman of Federal Character Commission, (FCC), Dr. Shettima Bukar Abba, stated this when he paid an official visit to Governor Aminu Bello Masari in Katsina State.
Abba said the issue has made the North unable to have fair share of bureaucratic opportunities at the federal level.
He added that the educational disadvantage being faced by the North and its people was making it difficult to achieve the objective of the quota system.
He, therefore, called on state governors in the North to organise an education summit to address challenges facing the sector.
He said the summit when it comes up, should lay emphasis on science and technologically related fields.
Abba said stakeholders need to “galvanise our people to meet up with challenges of competitiveness and boundless opportunities.”
Responding, Governor Masari expressed concern over failure to recruit state indigenes into junior federal cadre levels by the Head of the federal ministries from the state.
