Unemployed graduates laud FG training

It was gathered that the Federal Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with Supreme Management Training and Consultancy Services (SMTCS) Limited have concluded career development and entrepreneurship skills training for some graduates and university students.

Held at NECA House, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, the Graduate Internship Scheme (GIS), which was organised to equip unemployed graduates and university final year students with skills that would enhance their employability and also enable them set up small businesses that would make employers of labour, instead of employee.

Addressing participants, GIS National Project Director, Mr. Dennis Chukwu, represented by the Assistant Director, Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr. Aremu Najeem, noted that from inception of the programme to date, 25,186 graduates (68% males, 31% females and 1% vulnerable group) have benefited from the scheme.

According to him, over 1,000 of this number has started their own businesses with GIS stipends.

To consolidate the successes recorded so far and in line with the Federal government’s resolve to diversify the economy, GIS has keyed into the non-oil sectors with a view to developing the necessary skills required. This initiative has culminated in partnering different government and non-governmental organisations.

  3. It’s a shame. Training graduates on skill acquisition? So the didn’t learn skills at the schools? Shame Shame Shame
