It followed a period of attacking dominance from the Gunners which the Clarets kept at bay until the dying moments – Sean Dyche’s side had arguably the biggest chances of the game overall.

The north London outfit were initially frustrated by Ben Mee and Michael Keane who were imperious at the back for the home side.

Burnley man Sam Vokes had a huge opportunity in the 40th minute but the forward directed his header wide of Petr Cech’s goal from close-range.

Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott both blundered opportunities in front of goal after the break before Clarets defender Keane rattled the bar with a header from an inswinging corner in the 76th minute.

Walcott had another chance in the 85th minute following a rapid counter-attack involving Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil but the England speedster fired just wide from the edge of the box before Koscielny’s winner.

The win means Arsene Wenger’s side leapfrog Everton and Liverpool into the all-important Champions League spots.
