Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has said he can understand the comparisons between teammate Eric Bailly and ex-United defender Nemanja Vidic.
Smalling told MUTV the two play “the same way” after lining up alongside summer signing Bailly on five occasions this season.
He added: “Nemanja was one of those defenders who was very aggressive, very dominant and took no nonsense.
“Eric plays the same way. He can go through a tackle and he doesn’t take risks. You can see the similarities there, and I expect Eric to have many good years here.”
Discussing their partnership, Smalling said the two were still getting used to working together.
He added: “As defenders we need to be vocal and he’s getting a lot stronger at that, with his English really improving.”
Meanwhile, Daley Blind — who played alongside Bailly at centre-back earlier in the season — said he was happy to be back on the left of defence.
“I feel good in the left-back position,” the Dutchman said. “I can adapt quickly between the two positions.”
Blind said he was setting his sights on getting the best possible results from a tough run of United fixtures after the international break.
Jose Mourinho’s men take on Liverpool and Chelsea in the Premier League, and also face Manchester City in the EFL Cup and Fenerbahce in the Europa League.
Blind said: “I’m looking forward to that period. That is why you want to play for Manchester United. I like that.”
