Manchester United are set to offer Juan Mata a new four-year contract after his impressive start to the season, according to reports.
The Spaniard has been a regular starter in the Premier League, despite manager Jose Mourinho not being thought of as a fan after he sold the midfielder while at Chelsea.
The 28-year-old has two goals and one assist in his six top flight appearances to date, and this has been enough to convince the Portuguese to keep him – according to the Daily Mirror.
Mata’s current deal at Old Trafford comes to an end after next season, and he was linked with moves to Valencia and Everton in the summer.
He has also become a fan favourite among the Red Devils faithful, with instances such as when he recently made the team bus wait so he could greet a wheelchair-bound supporter endearing him to followers.
Mata played for United in every one of their Premier League fixtures last season, and it appears that he will continue to be key to their fortunes for the foreseeable future.
