Governor Simon Lalong bans Shi’ites in Plateau

This followed Wednesday’s clash between members of the sect and some youths in Angwan Rogo area of Jos North.

The youths had attacked members of the sect who were said to be celebrating the annual Ashura festival, marking the death of a grandson of Prophet Mohammed.

In the process, the youths were said to have demolished the sect’s Hussaniyya (worship centre)

However, in a statement in Jos on Friday, Lalong said that the activities of the sect could no longer be tolerated in the state.

In the statement signed by the Secretary to the Government of Plateau State, Mr. Rufus Bature, Lalong said that the ban was necessary in order to sustain the prevailing peace in the state.

He warned that government would not hesitate to clamp down on any member of the group who violates this order.

  1. Nigeria will soon become another battle zone by 2 countries. IRAN ANS SAUDI ARABIA. Same thing thre french and British did during biafra war. When will our leaders learn not to fall for this child’s play.

  2. You can worship a stone. It’s your right to do so. These governors will only drive them underground only to emerge stronger with Iran’s help. What’s all this fuss about?

  3. The constitution guarantees freedom of religion anywhere within the boarders of Nigeria. It is not lawful to ban any religion unless the constitution is amended. Mr Governor please note.
