I have no hands in the suspension of Ekiti lawmakers, says Fayose

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has affirmed that he has no hands in the suspension of a former chairman of Ekiti State House of Assembly Committee on Information, Mr. Gboyega Aribisogan.

Aribisogan was suspended last week Thursday for 180 legislative days for alleged anti-party activities.

Aribisogan, a former Information Committee Chairman, was also barred from holding any position of responsibility on behalf of the House during the period and to lose benefits associated with his office.

Reacting, however, Fayose said the decision of the house to axe Aribisogan was purely an internal politics of the Assembly.

According to him, the executive had no hands in it, contrary to insinuations that he masterminded the suspension.

Speaking shortly after the J’umat Service in commemoration of the second anniversary of his government, after which he inaugurated the construction of a new N600m governor’s office, Fayose said he had no hands in the entire drama.

Fayose said, “I don’t believe we have any crisis in the Assembly. How can you be talking about crisis just because a lawmaker was suspended? Let me also clarify that all that happened started and ended with the Assembly. I had no hands in it.

“How can they be saying I was involved just because a lawmaker was punished for wrong behaviour? Governance could only run very well when people are loyal; but when disloyalty becomes the order of the day, then government becomes something else.”

On the Ado Ekiti High Court’s striking out the suit filed by the Catholic Diocese of Ekiti concerning the education tax introduced by his government, Fayose said there was “no victor, no vanquished.”

He appealed to all stakeholders to join hands with him to improve the standard of education in the state.

“There is no victor, no vanquished. I meant well for introducing the development levy for both private and public schools. We want to improve education and that was exactly what we did.

“So, we plead with them to join hands with us to revive education in our dear state.”
