Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has named David De Gea his ‘no.1 in the world’ following the ‘keeper’s performance against Liverpool.

The Spaniard made a sharp stop from Emre Can and acrobatically saved a Philippe Coutinho long shot to help the Red Devils to a 0-0 draw with the Merseyside outfit.

Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd: Fellaini and Herrera impress but Karius looks shaky

This led to the former Old Trafford favourite naming him as the best, presumably goalkeeper, in the world.

Just in the Premier League the 25-year-old has some fierce competition for the title from the likes of Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois and Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris, while Juventus’ Gianluigi Buffon and Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer are among those to challenge De Gea on the international stage.

Ferdinand will be hoping the United stopper can keep up his current form as the team looks to make up a five point deficit to top flight leaders Manchester City.

With Chelsea up next in the league, and Man City in the EFL Cup, De Gea will need to be on top of his game if the Red Devils are to build any momentum in their coming fixtures.
