Stat shows Chelsea star is on course to become an all-time great

Diego Costa is not everyone’s cup of tea – far from it – but there’s no disputing his efficiency in front of goal.

Currently the Premier League’s top scorer with seven goals in Chelsea’s first eight games, Costa is back to his very best this season after a bit of a blip last term.

But even taking that dip in form into account, the Spaniard still boasts the Blues’ best minutes-per-goal record in the Premier League era overall.

Only measuring players with a minimum of ten goals for the club, Costa comes out on top with a goal every 133 minutes on average.

In total, the 28-year-old has netted 39 times in 62 top flight appearances since moving to England from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2014.

Chelsea’s PL Golden Boot winners

2000/01: Hasselbaink (23 goals)

2006/07: Drogba (20 goals)

2008/09: Anelka (19 goals)

2009/10: Drogba (29 goals)

Costa’s antics on the pitch are often more of a talking point than his performances, but if he carries on like this he is sure to earn himself legendary status at Stamford Bridge.

Costa was strongly linked with an exit over the summer, but if he stays at Chelsea he could be in with a real chance of eclipsing goalscoring legends such as Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba.
