‘Jose Mourinho cannot repeat Liverpool tactics against Chelsea because they have Diego Costa’

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho would be crazy to repeat his Liverpool tactics against Chelsea with Diego Costa in the Blues side, according to Phil Thompson.

Liverpool struggled to break down United and were held to a 0-0 draw as a result, but Thompson is convinced the physicality and quality of Costa makes it impossible for Mourinho to repeat the trick at Chelsea.

Costa will face off against his former boss for the first time since Mourinho left the club and Thompson has warned the United manager the Brazilian is an entirely different prospect to Daniel Sturridge.

‘Diego Costa is without a doubt the key man and he’s going to be the decisive factor,’ Thompson told Sky Sports.

‘It will be completely different to what Liverpool’s frontline offered, with Daniel Sturridge isolated and struggling to make an impact.

‘Costa will be absolutely flying, and Hazard as well.

‘I think they’ll all be very much up for it.

‘They’ll be keen to show Mourinho how well they’re playing without him.’

Mourinho returns to Stamford Bridge almost a year on from his dismissal last December after the Blues endured an unbelievably bad start to the 2015-16 season.

Chelsea were 16th when Mourinho was sacked and he returns to the club the latest man tasked with bringing silverware back to Old Trafford.
