Former goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer says that Arsenal’s Petr Cech is the best in the Premier League.
Cech, 34, joined the Gunners from Chelsea for £11 million in 2015 and impressed in the 0-0 draw with Middlesbrough on Saturday, making a number of crucial saves to ensure the home side came away with a point.
And his former Chelsea teammate Schwarzer insists that such a performance was no surprise.
“For me, Petr Cech is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League and probably has been for the last few years,” he told Match of the Day.
“I’ve had the privilege to work with him, I class him as a good mate and he’s an incredible professional.
“He stands big and he really kept Arsenal in the match which was quite strange considering nobody gave Middlesbrough a chance.”
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had said after the game that he owed a lot to the former Czech Republic international.
“They had chances but our goalkeeper saved us today,” he said. “Petr Cech had a good performance in decisive phases. We tried. You don’t win on command though. We lacked our creative potential around the box. That is part of it.”
