Withhold your assent from CCB, CCT amendment bill – Group tells Buhari

According to reports, the Centre for the Vulnerable and Underprivileged, CENTREP, Friday, requested President Muhammadu Buhari to withhold his assent from the Code of Conduct (Amendment) Bill 2016.

In a statement signed and made available to newsmen, CENTREP Executive Director, Mr. Oghenejabor Ikimi argued that the passage of the bill which empowered the National Assembly to take over power to appoint staff of the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB and the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT is tantamount to a political amendment.

CENTREP described the amendment as an exercise tainted with malice, especially as it came at a time when the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki was facing trial at the CCT.

According to CENTREP, “The above amendment no doubt is both political and selfish as we believe that the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) is a Court of Law that ought to be under the control of the National Judicial Council (NJC) and not the National Assembly.

“We are also not oblivious of the fact that the above amendment by the Nigerian Senate was made to cover up the iniquities and wrongs many Federal Legislators are allegedly involved in by way of non disclosure of their correct assets and liabilities.”

  1. This group are not serious
When the Executive misused the CCB/CCT you people did not say a thing
The CCB and CCT are on the way to the NJC with a stopover at NASS
But this shouldn’t be of concern to this group, since those to be involved are not likely to be the underprivileged and the vulnerable

  2. House of thieves. Nigerians are hungry and the Senators are yet to make any new law or amendment geared towards the welfare of the masses but they’re quick to amend the code of conduct act. Very selfish idiots

  3. This is a reenactment of the famous satire, Animal Farm, where; “All animals are equal but, some are more equal than others”
The law guiding the CCT is being amended to place the CCT under the direct control of the National Assembly, at the very time the senate president is being tried for massive corruption by the same CCT
    Quite ludicrous
This can only happen in corruption infested nations like Nigeria
The National Assembly, by this dodgy bill, is just exposing themselves to global mockery by this quite laughable law
There is no place for such flagrant manipulation in this modern world
    Big shame
