The Senate Committee on Police Affairs wanted nine candidates to be picked from each local council, but the PSC preferred equality of states as a criterion.

Ibrahim explained that the position of the Senate was informed by the need to ensure that more policemen are recruited from states with higher population, pointing out that even the policy of community policing would be better enhanced if policemen are recruited from remote rural areas in local councils.

Before suspending the process, the Senate in a letter asked the PSC to postpone the exercise over alleged irregularity in the criteria adopted.

Addressing journalists yesterday, Senator Ibrahim said the disagreement between the Senate and the PSC over the recruitment exercise has been resolved.

“We have resolved the issue and the recruitment would be done on local council basis.Very soon the exercise would resume,” he said.
