Phil Jones was part of a 21-man Manchester United squad that travelled to Turkey this morning for Thursday’s Europa League fixture with Fenerbahce.
The 24-year-old is yet to feature for the Red Devils this season and hasn’t played competitively since January.
The former Blackburn Rovers defender has been plagued by injuries since moving to Old Trafford in 2011 but Mourinho is thought to be an admirer of the centre-back.
With Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling and Antonio Valencia currently sidelined, Jones’ return will be welcomed by Mourinho as the injuries build up.
Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind have been used as the centre-back partnership in the last two games but Jones is a more natural central defender than both of these.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial were also part of the travelling party and the former could finally feature for the club for the first time since he was hooked at half-time against Manchester City on September 10th.
