Metuh received N400m, gave Anenih N21m – witness tells court

A defense witness in the trial of the former spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Olisa Metuh, has told a Federal High Court in Abuja how Mr Metuh spent part of the money he was accused of receiving from the office of former NSA, Sambo Dasuki.

The witness, one Mr Richard Ihediwa, who is a media aide to Metuh, told Justice Okon Abang that Mr Metuh was paid 400 million Naira through the Office of the National Security Adviser, out of which he paid former PDP Board Chairman, Chief Tony Anenih, the sum of 21 million for use at a centre in Asokoro district of Abuja.

He explained that the payment was made to Chief Anenih as rent to enable consultants, professors, economists, media experts and other professionals that were hired by the accused person, use the centre as an operational office to execute the media advocacy job given to him by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Ihediwa further told the court that following the prediction of some foreign countries that Nigeria would disintegrate in 2015, there were a lot of materials in the media which created fear in the mind of the public amid heightened terrorist attacks in the country.

This made the then president give approval for a media campaign to douse the tension.

Meanwhile, the court has asked the Registrar to furnish the prosecutor with all the necessary documents regarding the application by one of Mr Metuh’s sureties seeking to withdraw as a guarantor.

Counsel to Metuh did not disclose the reason behind the withdrawal but however said that it is in good faith.

  1. Still on this matter?

  2. If Metuh were a poor man that stole a goat or a tuber of yam, he would have been serving 15 yrs by now!!!
