Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez insists it is better for him and his team-mates not to be friends with any members of the Tottenham squad ahead of this weekend’s north London derby.
The Gunners host Spurs at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday as these two local rivals meet for the first time this season, and there’s already plenty at stake.
Having challenged for the title last season, Tottenham look in desperate need of a win at Arsenal to revive their chances for this term, but Arsene Wenger’s side are also chasing title glory and will want to build on their strong start.
Sanchez is in suitably determined mood ahead of the game, and gave a very frank answer when asked if he had any friends in the Spurs squad.
‘No,’ he said. ‘It’s better that way for us.’
The Chile international added that Arsenal have a lot of ambition to win the title this year, having missed out on a real opportunity as Leicester City ended up as surprise champions in May.
‘We’re taking it game by game but we have a lot of ambition,’ he said.
‘I think all the teams are challengers. Tottenham are a tough side but all teams are our rivals.
‘There are no easy games in the Premier League – you can get beaten by the bottom side here and that’s the beauty of it.’
