The former Arsenal and Manchester United striker took an accidental blow to the head during the first-half of Fenerbahce’s meeting with Akhisar Belediyespor, leading to him being stretchered off the pitch.

He had opened the scoring in that contest, but his evening was to be cut short as concerns were immediately raised as to his well-being.

With blood pouring down his face, and clearly in some discomfort, the 33-year-old was taken straight to hospital.

He was able to return to the Manisa 19 Mayis Stadium after receiving treatment, but the severity of the problem remained unclear.

Fenerbahce’s team doctor, John Kunduracioglu, told Fanatik at the time: “Van Persie received a blow to his eye, it was torn and bleeding.

“After investigating, we sent him to an ophthalmologist at the hospital for further checks. We learned that nothing serious has happened, so the situation is good.”

Van Persie himself has now moved to reassure supporters that he is fine and has suffered no lasting damage to his eyesight, with the incident merely brushed off as an unfortunate consequence of being a professional footballer.

Van Persie’s dedication to his profession is to be admired, with the experienced frontman already looking ahead to an eagerly-anticipated clash with Galatasaray after the international break.

Fener are due to face their arch-rivals at the Ulker Stadium on November 20.

Van Persie will be determined to play some part in that contest, having endured an injury-ravaged opening to the 2016-17 campaign.

He does have four Super Lig goals to his name from just eight appearances, and five in total across all competitions for the season, but he has some way to go if he is to match his 22-goal haul from last term and will be aware of the need to stay fit and healthy if he is to get close to matching that return.
