Didier Drogba not planning to retire from football

Montreal Impact striker Didier Drogba has said he has no plans to end his playing career when his current contract expires.

Drogba, who turns 39 next March, is out of contract with Montreal at the end of the current MLS season, which could still finish with the Canadian franchise being crowned champions.

The former Ivory Coast international, however, is already looking beyond his team’s Eastern Conference Championship tie with Toronto.

“My contract is up with Montreal, so I’ll be free at the end of the season. I think I’ll continue. I don’t know what my reaction will be if we win the MLS,” the former Chelsea striker told RTL.

“I’m not tired mentally. I can stay at training for two hours going over my drills. When I have a ball at my feet, I’m still like a child.”

However, the four-time Premier League winner, who worked under Jose Mourinho, Guus Hiddink and Carlo Ancelotti during his time at Stamford Bridge, does have one eye on his future after hanging up his boots, and sees himself in the dugout.

He said: “I want to play, everything is open. What I want is to enjoy myself. Nothing is clear, but I want to give myself the possibility, if one day I’m needed, to be available regardless of the position.

“So, that means courses, exams, I’m going to try and pass all my coaching badges and then be available if ever I’m needed.”
