Chelsea are reportedly planning to offer striker Diego Costa a new contract in the near future.
Having been linked with a return to Atletico Madrid last summer, the Blues are keen to tie the Spain international to the club for the long-term – according to the Daily Mirror.
The 28-year-old has been in fine form this season, scoring nine goals and assisting three others in 11 Premier League games to help the Londoners to second in the table – and two points behind leaders Liverpool.
This move comes as Roman Abramovich looks to back new manager Antonio Conte after the Italian’s strong start at Stamford Bridge.
Diego Costa Premier League stats
Chelsea did lose to Arsenal and Liverpool in September, but since switching to a new 3-4-3 formation haven’t even conceded a single goal during a run of five straight league victories.
Costa’s goals have been key to this, and the Blues are keen for him to stay at the club.
With former manager Diego Simeone looking likely to leave Atletico after the next campaign, they are increasingly confident of him doing just that.
