After pulling up in training, Arsenal attacker Alexis missed Thursday’s scoreless draw with Colombia, but Pizzi is confident that he has recovered well enough from a calf problem to feature in Tuesday night’s game.

Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal and Manchester City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo have both been passed fit for the second match of the international break, having started, but not finished the first game.

“Alexis was not able to play in Colombia, but we knew that the seriousness [of the injury] was not major,” Pizzi told reporters at Chile’s pre-match press conference.

Vidal was taken off in stoppage time against Colombia, but Pizzi believes the midfielder’s determination will see him start against Uruguay.

“He is fine,” the former Spain international said. “All the players who are here are the hardest workers, for their club and for us. The intensity with which they take their profession is above normal. In the case of Arturo, he is even more determined.”

Pizzi had come under fire from Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger for risking Alexis, but despite the Frenchman speaking out, the Chile boss was unconcerned.

“At no time have I received pressure from any club,” Pizzi continued. “I will never use a player who is not fit. We always respect the wishes of the clubs, despite rumours in the press.”
