The former Arsenal midfielder left the club in acrimonious circumstances back in 2011, the same summer as Cesc Fabregas departed for Barcelona, in a £24 million move to Manchester City.

Despite winning two Premier League titles during his time at Eastlands, Nasri impressed only fleetingly and was deemed surplus to requirements by Pep Guardiola upon his arrival during the close season.

Nasri has enjoyed a positive start to his loan spell at Sevilla, but his career could’ve panned out quite differently had he taken Wenger’s advice almost five years ago.

‘Leonardo wanted me at Inter Milan and then at PSG and Wenger told me to go to PSG. I did not want to at the time and then they bought Pastore. PSG, I don’t think I could do that,’ Nasri told L’Équipe du Soir, citing his allegiances with Marseille as a reason for snubbing Wenger.

On a potential return to Marseille, he added: ‘Financially speaking, if I came back to Marseille, I would be playing by myself.’
