The Real Madrid ace picked up his fourth Goal 50 award last week, so, in tribute, we asked our readers to select his most sublime strike of the year.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s stunning solo effort against Espanyol has been voted as the forward’s greatest goal of 2016.
Last Friday, the Real Madrid superstar was unveiled as the winner of this year’s Goal 50. As a result, we asked our readers to pay tribute to the Portuguese by selecting his most scintillating strike of the year.
Ronaldo’s glorious goal in the 6-0 Liga rout of Espanyol in January was the clear winner, with a 31 per cent share of the more than 3,000 votes cast.
The 31-year-old’s coolly-taken winner in April’s Clasico at Camp Nou also proved an unsurprisingly popular choice, ranking second (19%) with just 19 more votes than Ronaldo’s brilliant backheel for Portugal in their Euro 2016 draw with Hungary (18%).
The long-range piledriver against Celta Vigo at the Santiago Bernabeu claimed fourth place (12%), just ahead the towering header against Wales (11%) in the semi-finals of Euro 2016.
The free-kick that completed both a hat-trick and a remarkable comeback against Wolfsburg rounded off our sublime sextet of sensational strikes from the Seleccao skipper in 2016.
