More than 35 of the 62 private colleges of education verified were given provisional approval to operate by the commission.

The statement said that the verification was part of the commission’s initiative to improve the standard of education.

It noted that the exercise, which started in April this year covered the six geopolitical zones of the country and involved the organisation, administration and curriculum implementation of the colleges.

Garba said: “The exercise involved the private colleges of education that were randomly picked in all the six geo- political zones of the country.

“It covered the verification of the organisation, administration, curriculum, implementation of academic programmes and other aspects of development in the colleges.

“The essence of the exercise is to see what is happening in the colleges since they were given provisional approval to start mounting Nigeria Certificate in Education programmes.”

The statement said the commission would at the end of the exercise analyse all data collected and advise the colleges on how best to improve on areas of deficiencies.

It explained that improvement would be done in conformity with the minimum standard of the commission.

The NCCE is charged with responsibility of supervising the activities of all NCE awarding institutions in the country.
