A video footage has emerged which shows a woman pulling her sick husband on a hospital ramp at a Government Regional Hospital in India, after staff allegedly denied her stretcher to carry him.
A woman was forced to drag her ailing husband on the ramp of the government hospital here after the staff allegedly expressed inability to provide a stretcher to carry him.
The man, identified as Srinivasa Chary, 45, suffered from symptoms of gastroenteritis. His wife, Sree Vani, 40, brought him to the hospital.
The staff there bluntly told her that they did not have stretchers. Left with no option, the woman dragged Chary from the ground floor to the first floor of the hospital even as other patients and attendants watched on.
Chary and Vani are residents of Madina Masjid area in the town. The couple came in a rickshaw. Vani asked the hospital staff to provide her a stretcher or a wheel chair so that she could carry her husband to the consultation room on the first floor.
“I told them that I will push the stretcher. But, the staff did not provide the stretcher,” Vani said adding that she was forced to drag her husband on the hospital ramp after waiting for an hour in vain.
Hospital administrative officer Dr Mallikharjun said he would inquire into the incident and initiate disciplinary action against all those responsible for the inhuman act. He said he came to know about the incident late though it took place on Wednesday.
The hospital authorities promised to take action against the erring staff after local MLA Jitender Goud visited the ward. Vani said Chary has been paralysed after he suffered a stroke. He used to work as a security guard in Hyderabad.
