Pending Federal and State legislative elections in Rivers State will hold on December 10 as scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC’s director, Voter Education and Publicity, Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, stated this yesterday while dispelling a report that the elections have been suspended again.
Osaze-Uzzi, who described the report as misleading disassociated himself from it saying “the Rivers election will hold as scheduled on December 10.”
Recall that INEC had two weeks ago fixed the conduct of pending elections into Rivers and Lagos States on December 10.
The disclosure by INEC had come barely 24 hours after the National Assembly tasked the commission to conduct the elections to fill vacant seats in the federal and state legislative.
INEC, in a short statement by its Secretary, Mrs Augusta Ogakwu, however said “After months of intensive planning and wide consultations, the Independent National Electoral Commission today approved the conduct of the following elections:
“Lagos, House of Representative election – Saturday Dec 3, 2016.
“Federal Capital Territory (FCT) – Councillorship election – Saturday Dec 3, 2016.
“Rivers – National Assembly (Senate and House of Representatives) and State House of Assembly elections – Saturday December 10, 2016.”
