Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez will be handed a winter break in a bid designed to stop the Chilean winger from burning out.
The 27-year-old featured in Chile’s World Cup qualifier against Uruguay last week despite carrying a hamstring injury and played for 90 minutes in the Gunners’ draw against Manchester United on Saturday.
Wenger said Chile’s decision to play the forward could be ‘suicidal’ but Sanchez showed few signs of fatigue by bagging a brace in the side’s 3-1 win in Santiago.
However, Sanchez hasn’t had a free summer for over three years and the club are fully aware that they’ll need the striker firing on all cylinders come the end of the season if they’re to end their 12-year title drought.
According to the Daily Mail, Wenger’s decided that Sanchez will benefit from being given a winter break and could miss up to three weeks of fixtures of the festive calendar.
Sanchez has made 16 appearances for the Gunners this season – more than any other player – and Wenger’s considering giving him time off in either early December or early January.
