Alex Iwobi devastated after PSG draw, admits Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger admits he faces a difficult task to raise Alex Iwobi’s spirits after his error in Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with PSG.

The Nigeria international unwittingly flicked the ball past his own goalkeeper David Ospina following a goal-bound header from Lucas Moura, a mistake which looks like it will cost Arsenal the chance of topping Group A.

After making a sensational breakthrough last season, Iwobi has struggled to rediscover his best form in recent weeks, illustrated by his failure to score in any of his 15 appearances in all competitions this term, and his manger concedes the 20-year-old found his latest setback difficult to take.

‘Look, it can happen. The frustrating thing I think is that Ospina was behind him,’ he said.

‘He is certainly the most disappointed by what happened to him. But that is part of the game. We have to take that on the chin and support him and go back into the next game.’
