Bishop Matthew Man’oso Ndagos, the Catholic Bishop of Kaduna Archdiocese, has called on Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, to partner with the church in the state in order to achieve fast and greater development and peaceful co-existence among the citizenry of the state.
However, the Bishop expressed gratitude to Governor El-Rufai for the part payment of N15.6 million owed by the state government for the treatment of 2011 post election crises and other accident victims in Kaduna.
Ndagoso said the call to partner with the church has become necessary in view of the fact that Governor El-Rufai is so desirous to make Kaduna great again, pointing out that since the church has records of prudent management of resources, it would help in no small measure to propel the state to enviable height of development.
The Catholic cleric spoke shortly before commissioning a newly built Doctors’ quarters of nine flats of two-storey building, lecture halls and some newly acquired hospital equipment at Saint Gerald Catholic hospital, Kakuri, Kaduna.
The bishop also inaugurated The League of Friends of Saint Gerald Catholic Hospital to assist in the development of the hospital, saying that the role of the church in the development of state infrastructure and prudent management of resources was evident in Anambra State during the administration of former Governor Peter Obi.
According to him, in the entire country, it is only Anambra State that has the best health facilities and educational infrastructure because they were handled by the Church in partnership with the state.
The bishop, however, appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to alleviate the ongoing economic hardship in Nigeria , stressing that no hungry worker can perform effectively or be so dedicated to duty if he or she cannot afford three square meal a day.
Said he: “Many a times I hear people saying Catholic Church has money, it is not about having money, but prudent management of such money is what I am talking about because where government is struggling to raise N10 million to do a project, we as church can use N1million to do similar project, with even better quality.
“So it is about prudent management where self-interest does not count, but public interest. And since government, like the church, is all about serving humanity, I want to call on Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai to partner with Catholic Church to develop the state, and serve the people better, and I can assure him, he will see wonders of beautiful development of the State in no distance time.”
