Jamie Carragher has told goalkeeper Loris Karius to “shut up and do your job” after the Liverpool stopper’s latest goalkeeping gaffe.
The 23-year-old, who joined from German side Mainz 05 over the summer, has usurped Simon Mignolet in the starting line-up but is yet to win over Liverpool fans following a string of erratic performances – and was again at fault as Dimitri Payet scored a free-kick in the first-half of the Reds’ match against West Ham.
That has led to criticism from pundits and fans alike, with Gary Neville offering a stinging appraisal of his performance against Bournemouth last weekend.
The Sky Sports pundit claimed that Karius ‘transmits anxiety’ through the Liverpool defence.
The German U21international, in turn, spoke to the Daily Mail and dismissed Neville’s criticism, saying “I don’t care what Gary Neville said. He was a manager for a short bit and now he is back to being an expert again.
“But he is always very critical. I think he does it to everyone. I just hope that when I do well he will comment on that. We will see in the future.”
The above quote coupled with Karius’ error during the first half on Sunday prompted Carragher to rebuke the keeper.
“The keeper got criticism this week, and he has come out this week and had a pop at Gary Neville and mentioned me but my advice would be shut up and just do your job.”
