Uche Cosmos, a 22-year-old bus conductor, was on Thursday arraigned in a Mararaba Grade 1 Area Court, Nasarawa State, for alleged theft of laptop.
The defendant, who resides at Jikwoyi Phase 2, Abuja, is standing trial on a count of theft to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Agabi Auta, told the court that Comfort Uguche of behind Tessy Primary School, Kabayi, Mararaba, lodged a complaint at ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters Mararaba, Nasarawa State.
Auta told the court that Cosmos, on March 20, at about 12:00p.m. while the complainant’s daughter was asleep in the shop located at Kabayi Mararaba, entered the shop and stole one laptop.
The prosecutor said the defendant stole an HP laptop valued at N90,000 and cell phone valued at N2,500 before he was caught with the said items.
Auta noted that the offence contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code, which attracts five years jail term with fine or with both.
The judge, Albert Maga, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
He ruled that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
Mega adjourned the case until May 11 for further hearing.
