A village in Yantumaki town in Danmusa local government area of katsina state has resisted polio immunization agents from entering their village to immunize their wards over lack of accessible road to the village,
The villagers, mostly women and youths barricaded the main entrance of the village over government refusal to construct a 14 km road to the village. They alleged that it takes them whole day to move into their community.
It took the intervention of the District Head, Head of Administration of the LGA and members of Save the Children Ward Development Committees of Danmusa to persuade the villagers to accept the vaccines the following day.
A member of Danmusa WDC, Mohammed Danjuma who was Speaking at a review meeting of Health Reporters, WDC’s held at Save the Children office in Katsina said these are some of challenges been faced by WDC’s at the grassroots.
He said it takes great courage to pacify the protesters by the leadership to calm the situation and made them realised the need to accept the vaccines and with a promised to forward it to the state government.
Another community, Jiba and Chambala in Batsari LGA with a population of over 250,000 persons also asked for borehole, functional health facility in exchange for polio vaccination.
The Village Head of Bello Ruma said it took him several persuasions to address the non compliance issues within.
