The Bauchi State Government has pardoned and freed170 inmates with minor cases from various prisons across the state in the last two years.
The state Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice Barrister Ibrahim Umar disclosed this in Bauchi Wednesday, while presenting the scorecard of the ministry since May 29th 2015.
He said that the release of the inmates was part of Bauchi State government’s efforts to help in de-congesting prisons in the state.
He informed that the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) of the Ministry has advised, protected and terminated 212 cases diaries from April 2017 to date.
“We have also negotiated and mediated in all civil cases ranging from monetary to land matters, it has from January to date handle a total of one hundred and sixteen cases,”he added.
Barrister Umar further disclosed that his ministry has generated N59,497 from vetting of agreements and other sundries.
The Attorney General however noted that the ministry is being faced with the challenges of prosecution fees, process servers, witness appearance and mobility to and from courts.
