Chelsea ready to enter race to sign Cristiano Ronaldo as Roman Abramovich plans deal

Chelsea are ready to enter the race to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, according to reports.

The Sunday Express claims that Roman Abramovich is desperate to keep Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge and would be prepared to make a world-record bid for the 32-year-old in order to persuade the Italian to stay.

It’s also claimed that Abramovich would even be willing to offer Eden Hazard to Madrid in order secure Ronaldo’s transfer.

Earlier this week, reports in Italy claimed that Conte is unhappy with Chelsea’s lack of progress in the transfer market and is considering his future at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea, however, will face strong competition from Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain in the battle for Ronaldo’s signature.

On Friday, Madrid were rocked by the news that Ronaldo has decided to quit Madrid.

The Portugal international is reportedly ‘outraged’ after being accused of evading €14.7 million (£13m) in tax by Spanish prosecutors, although the player’s camp are now claiming that his desire to leave the Santiago Bernabeu is because he wants a ‘fresh challenge’.

Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has held talks with Madrid’s president, Florentino Perez, on Friday where he insisted that the forward is set on leaving and revealed that he already has offers from the Premier League, France and China.

Marca have claimed that Madrid are demanding a €200m (£174.5m) fee for Ronaldo, who has a €1 billion release clause.

But reports now claim that that Ronaldo’s advisors have made it known that a €150m (£131m) offer will be enough to persuade Madrid to sell.
