Mallam Mansur Manu Soro, the Special Adviser to Bauchi state Governor Mohammed Abubakar on Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), has warned applicants for the ongoing N-Power programme to expose any person demanding money from them for registration.
Soro, who is also the Bauchi State Social Investment Programmes (SIP) focal person in a statement noted that it has discovered that some people have devised means to extort money from unsuspecting applicants.
“It has come to the notice of the State Focal Person, Social Investment Programmes Bauchi State that, in their attempt to extort and or scheme out interested applicants from participation, some disgruntled elements have embarked on sales of forms for the on-going N-Power registration exercise,” he said.
He said security agencies in the state have been briefed and steps are been taken to track and apprehend the people engaged in the dubious act.
According to him, the state government has created 17 additional registration centres and procured more computers and printers to complement the efforts of the Federal Government.
“In accordance with the guidelines of National Social Investment (NSIO), the registration of youths into N-Power scheme is squarely Internet-based and requires no manual application. Traditional and religious leaders, NOA, CSOs, etc are working assiduously with the state government to ensure massive mobilization and sensitization of youths in the state,” he added.
According to him, the state government is working with the Federal Government through his office to actualize the objectives of N-Power scheme.
“It has succeeded in attracting into the state more than half a billion Naira so far, through the implementation of N-Power scheme and the amount is projected to hit an average sum of N2.7billion in the next 16 months,” he added.
It will be recalled that the N-Power is a cluster of the SIPs, one of the economic pillars of the President Buhari administration contained in 2017-2020 Economic and Recovery Growth Plan (ERGP).
It is one of the instruments created to address the present economic downturn in the country. The 2nd phase of registration exercise will last till 13th July 2017.
