The Afghan National Defence and Security Forces (ANDSF) is said to have killed 98 suspected rebels across the country in 24 hours.
“In past 24 hours, the ANDSF conducted anti-terrorism operations to clear some of the areas from terrorists and enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan, killing 98 armed insurgents and injuring 36 others.
“Among those killed during the raids were several members of Taliban militant group and four Islamic State (IS) fighters,” the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry said the troops also discovered and confiscated rounds of light and heavy ammunition during the raids conducted in 13 of the country’s 34 provinces.
The ministry did not mention if there were any casualties on the side of the security forces.
The Afghan security forces have beefed up security operations against militants recently as the Taliban and IS fighters have been attempting to take territory and consolidate their positions across the country.
