Ogun State House of Assembly Speaker, Suraj Adekunbi, said the autonomy for local government approved by the National Assembly, is not negotiable.
He promised to support the autonomy when the constitutional amendment bill is sent to the state assembly for consideration.
The Speaker spoke on the issue while answering question from to newsmen in Abeokuta, shortly after receiving fellowship award of the Chartered Institute of Commerce, and the award of the Oodua Best Speaker of the Year, from the Yoruba Redemption Foundation.
Adekunbi assured that the Ogun State House of Assembly will maintain its previous position on the local governments autonomy, when the 1999 constitutional amendment bill is transmitted to it, by the National Assembly.
On the scrapping of the State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), by the National Assembly in the constitution undergoing a review, the Speaker said the House will consult widely before taking position on it.
