22 Jos prison inmates register for examination

According to reports, the Nigerian Pris­ons Service (NPS), Plateau Command, on Saturday said 22 inmates of the Jos Prison have been registered to participate in the 2017 Basic Literacy Examination.

The exam is scheduled to take place on Aug. 24.

According to a statement signed by Mr Luka Ayedoo, NPS Plateau Command spokesperson, those registered for the examination were inmates who have been part of the prison’s adult school.

He explained that the adult school scheme runs for nine months.

Ayedo said the exam would be supervised by the Directorate of Adults and Non-formal Education of the Plateau Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB)

“This is part of our effort to provide sustained self–educating activities to inmates to ensure the de-radicalization, reformation, rehabilitation, and the eventual reintegration of the inmates in to the society.

“The scheme is part of our efforts to reform inmates so as to add value to their lives, ” he said.
Ayedoo assured that the command was committed to improve the general welfare of inmates in custody through the provision of quality education, good feeding system and humane treatments in accordance with world beat practices.

The command called on the State government, NGOs, religious bodies, corporate organisations and well meaning Nigerians to invest and support the quest for in public safety through custodial education
