Nnedi Okorafor, the award winning author of the wonderful Who Fears Death (2010), a fantasy novel set in post-apocalyptic Sudan, has expressed her displeasure over the media comparing her to George RR Martin, author of A Song of Ice and Fire.
In a tweet, she said;
“The story is great. But…this headline though. No, no, just no. I’m Nnedi Okorafor, yesterday, today, & tomorrow.”
it should be noted that fans of Nnedi Okorafor as well as the writing community have complained about the headlines announcing the HBO’s optioning of Nnedi’s Who Fears Death. It would seem that several news outlets actually removed her name from their headlines deliberately and one blog even managed to spell her name incorrectly. I cannot imagine, can you?
In a tweet, Nnedi reacted to one of such publications saying;
“Afrocentric”….at least say Afrofuturist, yeesh. Get with it. And *I* wrote the novel being adapted. Mscheeeeeeeeeeew.”
She is obviously pissed. I would be, if it was me. Anyways…
if you are a lover of fantasy novels like i am or a fan of Game of Thrones, which i believe you are, you must have heard that George RR Martin,the author of A Song of Ice and Fire, the fantasy novel from which the Game of Thrones was adapted, has optioned Who Fears Death for an HBO series. Nnedi Okorafor is also a part of the production team and they are both excited about working together. So let’s keep our knickers on and let world people not come and spoil a good thing.
Do get the novel, its definitely a lovely read; Yes, i said it.
