Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, the Ondo State Governor, has granted state pardon to 30 prisoners in the state.
It was gathered that the prisoners were serving various jail terms in the Olokuta Medium Prison, Akure, the state capital.
A statement issued on Tuesday by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Mr. Yemi Olowolabi, said the pardon was given to commemorate the country’s 57th Independence anniversary and was a follow-up to a recommendation by the state’s Advisory Council.
The statement read, “Most of the released prisoners were recommended for pardon on account of having been found to be of good conduct while serving their jail terms.”
Akeredolu also expressed optimism that the pardoned prisoners would be of good behaviour and contribute their quota to the progress of the state.
