He also warned Nigerians never to be deceived by the reforms being claimed by the Peoples Democratic Party.

Obasanjo called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress to stop giving Nigerians excuses, and get down to work to resuscitate the nation’s wobbling economy.

The ex-president said this on Monday at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, while playing host to the New Nigeria 2019 Group led by the convener, Chima Anyaso; in company with Moses Siasia.

As he did in the open letter he wrote to the President, Obasanjo accused the APC government of “bringing hardship on Nigerians” and “running ineffective economic policies” which he said had “crippled businesses.”

He noted that it was uncharitable for Buhari and his party to continue complaining about challenges after almost three years in office, saying the government had failed to confront and solve those challenges.

He tagged the APC-led government “a failure” and warned Nigerians not to re-elect a “failed government that always gives one excuse or another for its failure to meet up with Nigerians’ expectations.”

Obasanjo said it would be “foolhardy for Nigerians to reinforce failure by re-electing ineffective and incompetent government in 2019.”

He also lambasted the Peoples Democratic Party, urging Nigerians not to be deceived by their reforms and apology, arguing that neither PDP nor APC could get Nigeria out of the economic mess.

He said, “The truth is this: When you have an ineffective and incompetent government, we are all victims.

“And don’t let anybody deceive you. Those of you who are in business, your business could have been better today if we have a competent and effective and performing government.

“As I said, stop giving excuses; we met challenges. If there were no challenges, then we wouldn’t need you to come.

“You came in because you know there were challenges and then giving us excuse that you have many challenges, that is why you haven’t achieved results.

“And then you still want to go. The first lesson I learnt in my military training is to never reinforce failure. What we have now is failure.

“Never you reinforce failure. Let failure be failure. And if you do not see what you should see, you will then be a victim of what you don’t like because it’s only when you see what you should see and you do what you should do that you put away what you do not like.

“You see, I have publicly said and I mean it, that as a party, neither PDP nor APC can get us there as they have been. Never mind about reforms and apology and all that. “

  1. Buhari has been a major disappointment. I had so much hope in this man, but he has proved to be totally incompetent of leading Nigeria. Say whatever you want about OBJ, I know he would never have allowed the herdsmen crisis escalate to what we have now.

  2. Baba OBJ, is it not ironical that you that failed after two-terms of eight solid years, you, unashamedly, planned and schemed for third-term! Infact, you should be the last person to pontificate about good governance because you really don’t have an idea what it entails.

  3. OBJ the self proclaimed King Maker, you failed bid to establish a 3rd term and your single handed choice of Late Yar’aduwa and Jonathan are the root cause of the current failure we are all experiencing now. So please save us the advice and let young people choose a young leader to lead them.

  4. You can say all you want about OBJ. He might have led the country twice, he might have schemed 3rd term, he might have done some things untowards – but his advice is not to be wished away. He is saying the bitter truth. If you still feel bitter by his reign then you go and reinforce failure and remain in this political, economic and security quagmire. A word is enough for the wise

  5. Obj I laugh whenever I read your news because you have been there for 8years,you even oughted for 3rd but you didn’t get Nigeria where they ought to be. You were one of the people that destroyed Nigeria
