Tragedy just struck at Diamond Estate, Sangotedo, Ajah, Lagos, after a lady allegedly stabbed her husband to death, before stabbing herself too.

According to reports, trouble started around 10pm, last night, between Mr and Mrs Otike-Odibe over property issues. The couple, both lawyers, are said to have no children between them, but the man has a child with his first wife.

Mrs Otike-Odibe was alleged to have insisted that all the husband’s properties must be willed to her, a demand that didn’t go down well with the husband. It was also gathered that there have been issues of infidelity on the part of the wife.

According to an insider, after the wife stabbed Mr. Otike-Odibe to death, she also stabbed herself. She was however rescued and rushed to a hospital where she has since been stabilised while the body of the deceased was evacuated by the police.

A statement by the Lagos police reads:

PRESS RELEASE:

Today 3rd of May, 2018, the Divisional Police Officer, Ogombo, Ajah, Lagos, received a distress call at about 0730hrs, that one Mr. Otike Odibi, aged 50years from Kwale, Delta State, was allegedly killed in his home at Diamond Estate, Sango-Tedo Lagos, by his wife, one Mrs Udeme Odibi, 47years from Akwa-Ibom State.

Based on the information, the DPO mobilised a team of detectives to the scene where they found the man lying on the bed in the pool of his own blood, with his stomach ripped open exposing the intestine. As if that was not enough, the killer severed his genital and placed it on his right hand. However, before the arrival of the Police, Mrs Udeme who had unsuccessfully attempted to commit suicide after allegedly killing her husband, was rushed to the hospital for treatment by neighbours.

Sequel to the above, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Edgal Imohimi, directed Crime Scene Detectives from the homicide section of the SCID Panti Yaba and Forensic experts to the scene to aid in the investigation.

Eye witness account revealed that the couple both whom are lawyers, were married three years ago after the deceased divorced his first wife. The deceased first marriage produced a daughter currently schooling in the UK. However the current marriage is said to be without a child.

Further information from a neighbour, revealed that the deceased called him on phone in the night before he was murdered, complaining that the wife was threatening to kill him with a knife. The said neighbour however warned him to be careful. The deceased also called his mother and his younger sister complaining of threat to his life that fateful night.

The CP noted that not too long ago, a husband allegedly killed his wife and baby in Banana Island Lagos. He therefore advised couples to learn to resolve their matrimonial disputes without resorting to violence.

  1. This is becoming a trend in Nigeria. Let’s learn to settle our Scots without violence. Divorce if u can’t bear it

  2. an insider said the lady was to leave Nigeria today she had already checked and flight wil leave by 6am and was asked to leave with her friend yesterday yet she refused and stayed behind and they were saying shes not troublesome person and cant say what came over

  3. See what APC has caused frustration everywhere, change has produced more murderers than same individuals!

  4. Well, i thank everyone for not being quick to judge. A lot of undercurrent goes on between a man and a woman that can result if care is not taken, to death. Every woman wants to build a home….when you rely on your pzrtner and things go terribly wrong, face God in prayers. Her action is just a result of her pain, frustrations and disappointment if not, why will she commit murder and mutilate the body? God help her and i pray for repose of the soul of the departed.
